ABOUT US

Founder & Company

History The face of Unter Eisbergen is me, Sarah Magdalena Siepelmeyer.

Communication and I - we share an almost 15-year history, which is about half of my life. This story began in the editorial office of the Kölner Stadtanzeiger. Playing with language and telling stories had been an integral part of my life since childhood. Back then, I aspired to become a journalist, and thanks to the youth section "Junge Zeiten," I had the early opportunity to practice that. I spent a total of six years at the Kölner Stadtanzeiger, covering a diverse range of topics. I gained insights into the differences between written and spoken language and experienced firsthand that both can have a significant impact. Shortly before graduating from high school, I realized that it was language and its impact on people that fascinated me. Instead of attending journalism school, I began my studies: Psychology.

Soon, I focused on communication psychology. To my astonishment, I found that communication was a challenge in almost every company I had insights into. Within the framework of my studies, I started engaging in research in communication psychology, working for large insurance companies (e.g., AXA), in collaboration with universities (Harvard & Boston University), and even with small publishers.

I noticed that communication problems across different industries often shared similarities, yet their effects and contexts could not be more different. As a child of entrepreneurs, raised with a solution-oriented perspective, I researched how the communication climate within companies could be improved, and how functional positive communication could positively and measurably influence the corporate culture for both leadership and employees.

Communication As a Teacher

Today, after three academic degrees, an ongoing Ph.D., a dozen research projects, and many years of valuable experience, I founded "Unter Eisbergen." Sigmund Freud, psychologist, philosopher, and founder of psychoanalysis, ultimately "helped" me with the company's name through his iceberg model. His iceberg theory states that 80% of our communication occurs beneath the observable communication. Together with you, we look beneath the icebergs and at the 80% of communication that takes place in the hidden realm.
